One of Katko’s major goals was to catch and prosecute corrupt policemen and women and corrupt politicians. As at the time Syracuse had a reputation for hiding corrupt cops and politicians, who would be willing to use their power in order to protect violent criminals. Katko is anti abortion:
One view that Katko holds that may divide his supporters and fellow Republicans is that Katko is staunchly in opposition of abortion and bills which have been designed to give women the option to undergo an abortion, if they wish to terminate a pregnancy. However in the past Katko has supported Planned Parenting by choosing not to defund local Planned Parenting centers.
Katko helped launch a new piece of legislation which would provide extra protection to individuals who identify as being transgender or homosexual:
While Katko is a firm republican he was one of the two politicians which pushed through a new piece of legislation which was designed to uphold the rights of transgender individuals as well as homosexuals individuals. A move which endeared Katko to liberal democrats as well as liberal and center line republicans.
Katko condemned President Trump’s decision to reverse the Affordable Care Act:
In fact John Katko even voted to pass a legislation to condemn President Trump for his decision to reverse the Affordable Care Act. As Katko is passionate about ensuring that everyday Americans are able to access affordable healthcare, regardless of their background or wealth. A view which is at odds with President Trump’s views on health and personal responsibility.
